Hevy’s features and prices checked 5 September 2026.
Hevy is the best free workout logger there is. It logs faster than this app, it has millions of users and a 4.9 rating, and its free tier is genuinely generous. If what you want is a clean set log with good history, use Hevy — that is not false modesty, it is the honest recommendation.
This page exists because Hevy shipped a progression engine in February 2026, so the comparison people now make is a real one and deserves a real answer.
Trainer is included in Hevy Pro at no extra charge, which is $2.99 a month. From Hevy’s own description, it:
That is a real engine. It is one double-progression rule, applied between sessions, with no model of the equipment in your gym. For a lot of people that is enough, and it is bundled into a cheap subscription.
Trainer moves the weight up when every set hits the top of the range. Steady Increment does that too — and it also knows the weight it asks for is one your machine can make, tells you what to do when a lift stops moving, adjusts for the night you had, and finds you another exercise when the machine is taken.

Hevy is $2.99 a month, $23.99 a year, or $74.99 for lifetime. Steady Increment is $59.99 once. Comparing a one-time price to a monthly one is not a fair fight in either direction, so compare it to the lifetime: we are slightly cheaper than Hevy’s, and we do not have Hevy’s install base to justify a premium.
Both free tiers are worth knowing. Hevy free gives you four routines, seven custom exercises and three months of graph history. This app’s free tier gives unlimited custom exercises, your entire chart history, and one plan — where a plan is a whole training week rather than a single day. The shapes differ; neither is strictly better.
One difference in kind: Hevy Pro sells back limits Hevy imposed — unlimited routines instead of four, graphs older than three months. Buying this app adds something the free version cannot do at all.
Export from Hevy and open the file here. A real Hevy export of 330 sets across 44 exercises imports with nothing dropped, and 35 of the 44 match the library without asking you anything.
One detail worth mentioning, because it is the sort of thing that decides
whether an import is useful. Hevy writes the equipment inside the exercise
name — Leg Press (Machine),
Bench Press (Smith Machine). This app stores the movement and
the equipment separately, so it takes that apart and files a machine press
on the machine row rather than a generic one. Your machine history and
your barbell history stay on separate strength curves, which is where they
belong.

Stay with Hevy if you train with friends, want it on your watch, are on iPhone, or simply want the fastest, cleanest log with the best free tier. That covers most people, and Hevy has earned it.
Come here if you want the app to decide the weight and you want that decision to account for the equipment actually in front of you — and you would rather pay once.
